12/29/19 - Jack & The Vox

Ukulele-toting-mouth-trumpeting-songster Victoria Vox and guitar-slinging-singing-jokester Jack Maher reconnected 18 years after first meeting at the Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA).

Both established performers in their own right, the moniker Jack & the Vox was almost too good to be true! Since eloping in 2016, the two have been writing and performing together in between their own gigs. Stylistically it’s a bit Americana, jazz, folk, and pop, but really, there are no boundaries. Both hold degrees in Songwriting from Berklee and have the passion for making music.

Performing as a solo artist, Victoria Vox has honed her rhythmic ukulele playing style (creating her own back-beat). She has also perfected an old jazz-era vocal technique of the "Mouth Trumpet", under the influence of trumpet icon, Chet Baker. The Mouth-Trumpet enables her to take vocal improvisational solos without scatting or using words. She has been invited to “blow her own horn” on Jay Leno's Tonight Show and was also featured in the Wall Street Journal. Depending on the setting, she pairs the rhythmic uke and mouth trumpet with her electronic-looping skills (to create ostinato bass lines and harmonies) while creating a full sound, atypical to the stereotype of "ukulele music”.

Jack Maher is the lead guitar player and singer in the SoCal band, “Feed the Kitty”. Jack and the Vox, together, is a guaranteed entertaining and heart warming show of their self-penned tunes.

"Having cut my teeth on stuff from the likes of Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Crosby Stills & Nash, Eagles, Doobie Bros., Steely Dan and the list goes on, your music knocked me sideways with it's beauty, [Jack& the Vox is] up there with the best of them." - U.K. fan review.
