10/20/19 - Bach ‘An All

MATINEE! Imagine four top studio and touring musicians playing the hauntingly beautiful and technically challenging music of Johann Sebastian Bach - from gorgeous preludes and fugues...

(from the "Well-Tempered Clavier”) to the iconic and exciting Brandenburg Concertos. All of the music is carefully arranged for three electric guitars plus electric bass. Along with the music is dialogue - to provide the listener with historical context and interesting facts about the man whom some experts consider to be the greatest of all composers.

The music of J.S. Bach is timeless and cuts across dimensions of culture, and language. Its musicality and variety go beyond considerations of style, genre and instrumentation. It has influenced musicians from every culture and corner of the earth, from church choirs and master chorales to the jazz-influenced Swingle Singers, from major orchestras and chamber groups to the Supremes (How Gentle is the Rain – A Lover’s Concerto is based on a Bach minuet – with a melody so irresistible it reached across three centuries and into the genre of ‘60s Motown pop).

Bach an’ All is comprised of four players: leader, guitarist and arranger Bruce Lofgren, keyboard artist and pedal steel guitarist Doug Livingston, guitarist Dan Ferguson, and bassist Randy Landas.

Composer / arranger Lofgren has penned hundreds of original works as well as arranged music for many other artists. He wrote for The Osmonds – Donnie and Marie Show, Doc Severinson’s Tonight Show Orchestra, The Buddy Rich Big Band, and Donna Summer. He has received gold records for work done with Loggins and Messina, and Teri De Sario (with KC and the Sunshine Band). He wrote the theme for the syndicated TV Show Johnny Carson’s Comedy Classics.

Talented multi-instumentalist Doug Livingston has played on hundreds of recordings, shows and films. He can be heard on records by Neil Diamond, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, and Ray Charles. He has toured with Olivia Newton-John, Chuck Berry, Diana Ross, and Bobby Vinton. Some of his TV show credits include: The Dukes of Hazard, Mad Men, Motion Picture Academy Awards and American Idol.

Guitarist Dan Ferguson, son of famed Hollywood film composer Allyn Ferguson, is an active studio musician with many credits. He has played with Seales and Crofts, Boz Skaggs, and Joan Baez. He co-produced a Grammy-winning album for the Count Basie Orchestra. He has done work on films such as Big (Tom Hanks) and did the guitar solo work for The Rockford Files.

Bassist Randy Landas is a Los Angeles based musician whose time is divided between studio work, touring and local live performances. Besides playing on numerous records and TV shows he has toured with Burt Bacharach, Johnny Mathis, Rita Coolidge, Andy Gibb, Ricky Lee Jones, Helen Reddy and Boxing Gandhis.
