08/20/19 - The Bind

On August 20th, The Bind and associates hope to capture their influences and take their audience back to a time of innocence and hope.

The first time Frank Urtecho and Jerry Yslas began making music together was at a church event in 1979. They were 16. Products of Catholic schools and FM radio, Frank and Jerry began to develop a unique harmony and sound that reflected a wide array of folk and rock influences. The Byrds; Simon and Garfunkel; Crosby, Stills, and Nash; and Cat Stevens were heard on their eight tracks and cassettes and continue to linger in their hearts. Their debut album, entitled The Bind, and their 2019 release, Sacred Space, parallels their gospel/spiritual background infused with a contemporary, timeless acoustic sound.

The Bind features on bass Mr. David Garcia, a brilliant rock and jazz musician who entertains audiences throughout the area as part of the Northeast L.A. Jazz Group. Mr. John Gonzalez, the lead vocalist of The Tuxedo Junction Orchestra—a big-band sound with a Sinatra flavor—and an unbelievable musician/singer-songwriter with genuine musical intuition, will dazzle the audience on keyboard/piano. The talented Mr. James Tan, who has been affiliated with Frank and Jerry for more than 20 years and is a staple at both the San Gabriel Mission and St. Alphonsus, will be performing on violin.
