07/27/19 - The Music of Elton John: The First Decade

MATINEE! Featuring Rick Bagby & the Honky Cats. Rick Bagby & the Honky Cats will re-create the best of that historic decade of hits and songs that have been a soundtrack for our lives over the years.

After nearly 50 years of international notoriety & phenomenal rock 'n' roll success and hit biopic at the theaters this summer it's easy to lose sight of the legendary British pop star, Elton John's primary strength, that is his unique gift as a songwriter-keyboardist.

During his first ten years with co-writer Bernie Taupin, Elton John's music formed a strong foundation with hits like "Your Song," "Love Song," "Tiny Dancer," "Levon," "Rocket Man," "Crocodile Rock," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Candle in the Wind," and Bennie and the Jets," and the list goes on and on.

Rick and the Honky Cats will bring the music to life as they recall Elton John's first engagements in America at Doug Weston's Troubadour and UCLA's Royce Hall.

Rick Bagby is one of L.A.'s premier musicians & entertainers. With roots in the Sunset Strip scene of the late 1960s, he has built a career as a keyboardist and rock vocalist who specializes in the keyboard style of Elton John, Billy Joel, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Ray Charles. He performs with a unique charisma brings audiences to their feet during his entertaining shows.

The Honky Cats are not only great musicians but they are knowledgable fans of Elton John's with a strong love for his music. The band consists of the phenomenal bassist Chad Watson (Charlie Rich, Janis Ian, Delaney Bramlett) who always brings magic and originality to his stage performances. On lead guitar will be Ed Tree, one of Americana’s finest roots instrumentalists, singer-songwriters and independent producers. Drummer Owen Goldman is a nationally known drummer who is as dynamic as he is creative. He currently works with Robbie Krieger of The Doors.

This will be a unique evening to honor one of the great artists in rock music, Elton John, who has entertained us through the years. Come with your dancing shoes and your voices warmed up to sing-along and remember.
