06/01/19 - The Songs of Elton John

MATINEE! Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating The Songs of Elton John, The Early Years, Featuring Rick Bagby & the Honky Cats!

After nearly 50 years of international notoriety & phenomenal rock 'n' roll success, it's easy to lose site of the legendary British pop star, Elton John's primary strength, that is his unique gift as a singer-songwriter-keyboardist.

During his early years with co-writer Bernie Taupin, Elton John's music formed a strong foundation for his stardom with hits like "Your Song," "Love Song," "Tiny Dancer," "Levon," "Rocket Man," "Crocodile Rock," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Candle in the Wind," and Bennie and the Jets," and many more.

Now Roadhouse veterans, Rick Bagby & the Honky Cats, will re-create the best of that historic decade of hits and songs that have been a soundtrack for our lives over the years. Rick and the Honky Cats will bring the music to life as they recall Elton John's first engagements in America at Doug Weston's Troubadour and UCLA's Royce Hall. Also appearing will be special guests vocalists and songwriters Joel Bennet, Carol McArthur and Neil Rosengarden. Rick is one of L.A.'s premier musicians & entertainers. With roots in the Sunset Blvd scene of the late 1960s, he has built a career as a keyboardist and rock vocalist. He has a dynamic charisma as he invites the audience to participate in his entertaining shows. He has regularly brought the house down during the Roadhouse Series shows.

The Honky Cats making their premier at this show consist of the phenomenal bassist Chad Watson (Charlie Rich, Janis Ian, Delaney Bramlett) who always brings magic and originality to his performances. Lead guitarist, Al Bonhomme, a Musicians Institute Alumni, was voted Guitarist of the Year by the California Country Music Association in 1988. He specializes in Country, Fingerpicking and Acoustic Styles, Roots Music and Americana. Drummer Owen Goldman is a nationally known drummer who is as dynamic as he is creative. He currently works with Robbie Krieger of The Doors.

This will be a unique evening to honor one of the great artists in rock music, Elton John, who has entertained us through the years. Come with your dancing shoes and your voices warmed up to sing-along and remember.
