12/19/18 - Real Vocal String Quartet: Grant Winning Ensemble

Four musicians, a string quartet, string band, vocal quartet, jaw-dropping improvising world-music collective, pick a box and they will think outside it, with style.

RVSQ plays original songs, pieces and unique arrangements that pay tribute to music from Appalachia to Cote D’Ivoire to Brazil, with sparkling improvisation. And, if you hear strings and back up vocals on Feist’s award winning recording “Metals” you will hear us. Our latest music involves cultural collaborations with artists from around the globe. “Polished string-quartet playing with haunting, expressive singing.” –Strings Magazine

Real Vocal String Quartet is founder Irene Sazer, (original Turtle Island-er), fiddler extroadinaire Sumaia Jackson, percussionesque cello wiz David Tangney and a bass player who plays that thing like a fiddle, Sam Shuhan. We play music that we have composed or music that has inspired and moved us arranged in a very personal RVSQ way. We use percussive techniques, improvisation, and our wild imaginations to create sonic beauty that has been thrilling audiences for over a decade. Look for our recordings from all the usual sources. We are currently making album number four and will share sneak peeks of this new music with you as well as some well loved gems.
