02/02/19 - Acoustic Duo: The MacMammals

MATINEE! An eclectic Celtic, British Isles, and North American acoustic music experience. From warm ballads to rousing sea shanties, their music weaves historical tales with folklore and humor.

This Southern California based acoustic duo presents a musical stew of sounds seasoned with a touch of bluegrass, and salted with some songs of the sea (arggh!). Their selection of distinctive and seldom heard songs augments The MacMammals experience and delights listeners.

The "Macs" consist of Carol Schryver and Ron Bloom. They have been performing together since 2004, each bringing unique backgrounds to their duo. Ron comes from a long background of folk and folk/rock. He performs on acoustic guitar, mandolin, Irish bouzouki, and lends warm vocals. Carol has performed Celtic and Appalachian music for over twenty years. Her vocal work is said to be reminiscent of Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins. She backs her sheer, genuine, and enchanting contralto vocals with guitar and, on occasion, accordion. Backing The MacMammals will be bassist Paul Marshall. Paul’s warm and inventive bass licks are stirred into the pot, adding icing to The MacMammals cake. His bio includes singing/songwriting and film credits; band member with "Strawberry Alarm Clock," "I See Hawks in LA," and more.

The MacMammals are familiar faces at local Southern California venues and at local venues during the Celtic Colours Festival in Cape Breton, NOVA Scotia. They have performed at The Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena, CA, Butler's Coffee in Palmdale, CA, The Camarillo Celtic Faire, The Living Tradition concert series, Camarillo Cafe concert series, Fireside concert series, the Annual Benefit for ARC in N. Hollywood, Music in the Mountains, The Turbotville Folk Festival, The Anaheim Multicultural Music Festival, The Kitchen Rackets at the Celtic Colours Festival on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, and at the Middlewich Folk Festival in England.
